Azerbaijan is a geographical name. On the one hand, the name of Azerbaijan is associated with the fact that the majority of the population living in this area long before this era was fire worshipers. Azer means fire. The eternal flame has long been considered a symbol of the Absheron Peninsula, where the capital of Baku is located. Because there are naturally burning torches in this area. One of these natural wonders is the “Flaming Mountain” in the village of Mohammadi on the Absheron Peninsula. In Surakhany there is an ancient monument called “Ateshgah”, in which the fire never goes out. This phenomenon led to the recognition of Azerbaijan as a “country of fire” in the world.
On the other hand, it is named after the Azeri Turkic tribes, who have lived in the territory of Azerbaijan since ancient times. “Azer” consists of “az” and “er”. In Turkish az means good intentions, good luck. “Azer” means “husband is a man”, “husband is a son”, “fireman”. So, “Azerbaijan” was formed on behalf of the ancient Turkic-speaking tribe that lived in this territory.
The territory of Azerbaijan is a rich source for archaeologists. Excavations in the Azykh cave in Karabakh have revealed traces of human civilization in Azerbaijan 2 million years ago. The human jaw of the Ashel period, known as Azykhantropus, suggests that there were early human settlements in Azerbaijan. It was this discovery that made Azerbaijan on the map of early human life in Europe.
When we say Azerbaijan, we also mean oil. Oil is not only wealth, but also fame. In the distant past, people came to this land from afar, following a liquid that had a special smell and color, which came out of the ground and settled in ponds. For thousands of years, camel caravans transported oil in barrels east and west. Oil exported from Azerbaijan was used not only for burning, but also as a valuable medicine for many diseases. Over the centuries, the demand for oil in near and distant countries has been growing, and today Azerbaijan is one of the main suppliers of oil in the European region.
Huge energy projects are being implemented in Azerbaijan today. Oil and gas projects are being successfully implemented in the Azerbaijani part of the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan has become a country that uses the enormous energy potential of the Caspian Sea to form a qualitatively new economic model in the development of the region, plays an important role in expanding political and trade relations between Europe and Asia, the development of the Caucasian transport corridor and the implementation of large projects.
